BEST GASTRO PUBS IN PARIS

While brasseries are technically all gastro pubs, we thought to compile a list of craft beer-focused bars that pair their beer with tasty bites rather than the other way around. The best gastro pubs in Paris are in a league of their own and are well worth a visit if you enjoy a simple meal that goes well with a pint of craft beer.  So here are the best ones worth considering:

1) LA FINE MOUSSE

Located in the east of Paris near Pere Lachaise cemetery, La Fine Mousse is the perfect place if you’re looking to sip some delicious craft beer while munching on some gourmet delicacies. They have an excellent selection of craft beer and while the food is a bit more sophisticated than other spots, could you really hold that against them? It is after all Paris so who would be a fool to turn down an opportunity to gorge on all kinds of delights while sipping on a tasty pint? Beer comes first here but their food is excellent. Note that the menu changes regularly but they essentially offer modern French cuisine.

2) THE GREEN GOOSE

Located near Nation in the east of Paris, The Green Goose is an Irish-French gastropub that serves delectable dishes like scotch eggs, skirt steak, and some darn good fish and chips (16.5 euros).  Think Irish but with a French twist.  While the menu is not extensive, the food is good and the atmosphere and friendly service make this a great spot to enjoy food along with a pint or two.

3) LES CUVES DE FAUVE (FAUVE)

Fauve is a hip microbrewery that doubles as a gastro pub. It’s located in the 11th near Bastille and offers just under 20 beers on tap which they lovingly make themselves.  As far food goes, they do an excellent roasted chicken, a delicious gourmet burger made with reblochon cheese and Black Angus steak. They also serve many smaller bar bites like stuffed peppers, their own chicken nuggets and delicious French fries.

4) L’ATALANTE

Atalante is a fairly new gastro pub, or ‘pub parigot’ as they call themselves, with an excellent array of craft beer, carefully selected for every palette. For instance they have delicious local peach and Rye IPA beer from the local Brasserie du Grand Paris. Food wise things are also interesting with all kinds of street food inspired, small bites like karaage chicken, samosas and arancini. They also serve a variety of burgers, which are all excellent.

5) ACADEMIE DE LA BIERE

Located near Port Royal behind the Luxembourg gardens, Academie de la Biere has yummy bar food and yes, BEER!!!  It isn’t called the Academy of Beer for nothing! They have tons of it. From all over Europe (mainly Belgium and France) and the world. While they don’t brew their own they always have plenty of options on tap, and as far as food goes, we recommend their steamed mussels and charcuterie platters.

6) EXPRESS DE LYON

Situated near the Place de Bastille, Express de Lyon has been around forever and is a good choice if you’re looking for a low key place that offers a good variety of beer including many from the north of France and Belgium.  As in the name, the food they serve comes from the French city of Lyon (France’s 2nd biggest city and culinary epicenter) so you get very tasty yet simple bar food here.  And if that’s not enough you can also catch a game on the telly.

7) AU METRO

Au Metro 14 serves hearty meat platters and stews from the Southwest region of France. And beer. Plenty of beer. Located in the 14th near Montparnasse, Au Metro 14 is a good value bistro that is popular among sports enthusiasts since it is also a good spot to watch a game. It’s a winning formula: simple good food + beer + sports = happy customers.

For some excellent, reasonably priced comfort food like hearty stews, check out our list of some of the best comfort food you can find in Paris. Most are restaurants specialising in French regional cuisine which is simple, nutritious and delicious. For instance, Southwestern French food features loads of duck, roasted chicken and game. Meanwhile the Provence region in the south produces ‘lighter’ Mediterranean dishes in a simple and relaxed environment. These regional restaurants all serve their own local drinks and liqueurs which is always fun.

Another suggestion is to enjoy some excellent savoury crepes (galettes) with Breton cider  Ti Jos Breton Pub is both a pub and a creperie and offer an extensive range of cider.  If you prefer a nice dry aged steak with a glass of wine there are some excellent options as well.

Finally, if you’re looking for a good deal, you can purchase the Paris City Card for 82 euros, which includes a cruise along the seine via Bateaux Parisiens, Louvre museum access plus access to the Eiffel Tower and an audio guide (app). And if you have a kids or just looking for something a bit more relaxed, the Paris Family Fun Pass for 51 euros includes access to the Paris Zoo (world class and not to be missed!), Gallerie D’Evolution at the Natural History Museum (skip the line) and the Grevin Wax museum.
